Class is in Session at Premiere Columbus

Attendees were granted access to the exhibit floor, stage presentations, workshops, and over 130 complimentary classes – including a class taught by our CEO, Dr. Tye Caldwell. During the trade show, Dr. Tye taught two classes about how salon and shop owners can stay afloat during a recession. With “recession 2022” around the corner, we’re all looking for ways to future-proof our beauty and barbering businesses. As a 30-year industry veteran, Dr. Tye shared lessons learned while running an award-winning salon and barbershop during crises like the 2007 economic downturn, Y2K, and COVID-19. He went over his five tips on how to sustain a business and navigate during a recession

Did you know that 74% of us are worried about the recession and 85% are concerned about inflation? Here are Dr. Tye’s tips on maintaining a business during an economic downturn.

Attendees listen as Dr. Tye shares his tips for a recession-proof business.
  1. Cut expenses – plan a worst-case and best-case scenario for your budget now. Getting ahead of what’s to come ensures that there will be few budget surprises.
  2. Increase your emergency fund – typically your business savings account should last you three months, but Dr. Tye suggests extending this fund to cover you for six months. If COVID taught us anything, it’s that we need to be ready with a rainy-day fund.
  3. Monetize your knowledge – create another income by teaching an on-demand course for other industry professionals. The average rate for a freelance consultant in the U.S. is over $75 an hour.
  4. Protect your mental health and avoid burnout – 50% of people have mental health challenges (including anxiety) after recovering from COVID. Incorporate journaling, working out, and me with loved ones into your routine to avoid burnout.
  5. Keep smart investments – now is NOT the time to cut your Simplified Employee Pension Plan or offload your real estate. Now is the time to invest in good talent – your support system is everything!

According to Dr. Tye, “Whether you are behind the chair or not, your personal brand is important to your small business.” You attract what you want out of your business.

ShearShare Appreciation Dinner

Ohio Pros at the ShearShare Appreciation Dinner.

While in Ohio, we also held a dinner for a select group of ShearShare Pros at Marcella’s. The dinner consisted of great food, networking, and a chance to hear from our community about how the app helps them earn money and maintain their business. Patty Schopp, a ShearShare pro in Columbus, turned to ShearShare after experiencing a car accident that left her unable to work. Once her health improved, she used our app to find various salons available to rent daily and was able to make an income and get back to doing what she loves. These personal stories remind us why we love what we do.

We Love Our Community

ShearShare takes every opportunity to hear from our community and we appreciate all of your feedback. So let us know, what city should we visit for our next community meetup. Let us know in the comments and we may pop up in your city!
