ShearShare Wins Tech. Co Startup of the Year 2016!

At this year’s Innovate! and Celebrate, McKinney, TX-based startup and YC Fellow ShearShare won first place in the Startup of the Year competition.

Chosen from an initial batch of nearly 1,000 startups and after semi-finalist competition against approximately 50 other startups in the Startup of the Year race, ShearShare convinced judges that they deserved the top spot among the five finalists in the competition.

Startup of the Year First Place Winner: ShearShare

ShearShare is a company that connects salon and barbershop owners to individual beauty operators to fill unused salon suites and stations on a temporary basis. Salon and barbershop owners make money on their empty chairs, and licensed cosmetologists and barbers lease professional salon space by the day. With ShearShare, licensed barbers and cosmetologists — hair stylists, makeup artists, nail technicians, estheticians, massage therapists — have the flexibility of working in a professional salon environment without committing to a long-term lease contract.

As the first-place winner in the Tech.Co Startup of the Year competition, ShearShare receives the following:

  • Title “Tech.Co Startup of the Year 2016”;
  • IBM Hosting Credits – 12 months ($120,000 value);
  • American Airlines Business Extra Points – 15,000 ($5,000 value);
  • F6s Alpha Card – ($10,000 value);
  • Business Blocks Course – ($4,000 value);
  • Aftershokz Wireless Headphones – ($400); and
  • First choice draft of accepting 500 Startups, Techstars, Tech Wildcatters, DreamIt Ventures or Amplify.LA Offer (ShearShare chose to go with 500 Startups).

Klickly, Podshare, Peanut Butter, and CoSchedule came in second, third, fourth, and fifth place respectively. As winners of the competition, they also received American Airlines Business Extra Points, a Business Blocks course, Aftershokz Wireless Headphones, and a choice draft of accepting of accepting offers from Techstars, DreamIt Ventures or Amplify.LA.

Tech Wildcatters Winner: GrokStream

GrokStream, from Aliso Viejo, CA, detects anomalies in cloud services using machine intelligence and resolves issues using automation, creating homeostasis for IT. Tech Wildcatters chose to fast-track them in their program.
